We are delighted to congratulate Emma Kuhn (Grade 7) and Emily Martens (Grade 5) for their amazing swimming achievements last term.
Emma swam in the South African National Junior Championships and won gold medals for the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke. She was also selected to represent KwaZulu-Natal at the National South African Schools Swimming Championships in Polokwane during the holidays.
At this event, Emma won gold in the 200m breaststroke, silver in the 50m breaststroke, silver in the 200m Individual Medley and bronze in the 100m breaststroke. She also won gold for the 4x50m Individual Medley relay.
Emma’s proud mother, Nadine Kuhn, says, “Emma really enjoyed making friends with the other KZN swimmers. They each received a stunning KZN kit and the whole event was paid for by the Department of Sports and Recreation. A big “thank you” to the DSR and to the teachers, coaches and organisers who made the gala such a success!”
Emily Martens participated in the Under 10 age group at the Level 2 Regionals in Sasolburg from 24-26 March. She swam 9 events and of those, made 7 finals, which was a fabulous achievement. She fought hard against some formidable opponents (and altitude!) to win a bronze in the 200m backstroke and silver in the 100m breaststroke. Through the 3 days of swimming, Emily achieved 3 “personal best” times, 2 of which now qualify her as a Level 3 swimmer.
Congratulations to Emma and Emily. We are very proud of you both!
