Your daughter is learning and growing! She has gained valuable skills during her formative educational years and is ready to progress in her school journey.
Choosing the right school for your daughter is such an important decision – and may be a challenging one too! To ensure that our admissions process is as simple and convenient as possible, we have developed a step-by-step guide to assist you as you apply for your daughter to join the St John’s D.S.G. Junior School family.
If you are considering St John’s D.S.G. as the school of choice for your daughter, we would love to hear from you! Please contact our lovely Admissions Secretary, Mrs Jenny Westwood, on 033 386 8304 or email admissions@stjohnsdsg.com and we can answer any questions you have.
We have no doubt that you will want to see our “small school with big heart” in action, to get a real sense of what makes St John’s D.S.G. special. If you would like to arrange a tour, please email marketing@stjohnsdsg.com.
Applications for Grade 1 – 7, 2025 have now closed. Should you wish for your daughter to be placed on the waiting list, please contact Mrs Jenny Westwood by email on admissions@stjohnsdsg.com.
Applications for Grade 1 – 7, 2026 and beyond are still open. Grade 1, 2026 applications close at 10h00 on Wednesday, 19 February, 2025. Any applications received after the specified time will be placed on the waiting list. Please note that we only have one class per grade in the Junior School, so spaces are limited.
Once your application form has been received, Mrs Jenny Westwood will email you to confirm receipt. For Grade 1 placements, the application process will only commence in February the year before entry. Parents are invited to an interview with our Headmistress of the Junior School, whilst one of our teachers spends time getting to know your daughter in a friendly and relaxed environment. Depending on the availability of space, parents of Grade 2 – 7 applicants may also be invited to an interview and an appointment for your daughter to interact with one of our teachers will be made for the same time.
All applicants will be informed via email if they have been successful in obtaining a place at the school. For all other grade applicants, the school will be in contact after a couple weeks from the interview and assessment.
St John’s D.S.G. does not work on a first-come-first-served basis. We accept applications throughout the year and prospective families are welcome to apply several years in advance for their ideal grade of entry. However, this will not guarantee a space at the school. Please take not of deadlines for Grade 1 entry. There is no deadline for applications for Grades 2 – 7, placements are, however, space dependent. Please note: our Grade R class feeds into Grade 1, so space is often limited when applying for Grade 1.
For Grade 1 entry, the application process will only commence in February the year before entry. Parents are invited to an interview with our Junior School Headmistress whilst one of our teachers spends time getting to know your daughter in a friendly and relaxed environment.
Depending on the availability of space, parents of all other Junior School grades may be invited to an interview with our Junior School Headmistress and your daughter will spend a school day with us.
The interview is an opportunity to meet you and your daughter in a relaxed setting. Your daughter will also have an opportunity to chat with one of the teachers to ask more grade specific questions and see the classrooms. She may be asked a few questions relating to her current grade’s work.
Yes. Failure to do so will mean that your application will not be processed or considered.
