St John’s D.S.G., established in 1897 by the Society of St John the Divine, is situated in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. It is a leading Anglican, independent, day and boarding school for 570 girls (Grades RR – 12), and is a member of the Independent Schools’ Association of Southern Africa. St John’s D.S.G. has a strong community ethos that gives it a distinct character.
We are looking for Senior School Interns who would like to immerse themselves in the life of our school and sow into the lives of our students. Our Intern posts will suit applicants who are keen to learn how to teach while they study, so need self-discipline and enthusiasm. We require applicants who will be committed to the Christian ethos of the school, as well as our goal to be a place where every student is seen and belongs. Interns will assist with extra-curricular activities, boarding duties, transport duties, tutoring, coaching sport, outreach and clubs. Interns will be assigned a mentor who will review progress and provide guidance in the classroom.

- Have you turned 21?
- Are you studying towards a Bachelor of Education or a PGCE in 2024?
- Are you majoring in Social Sciences or Languages (English, Afrikaans, IsiZulu and French)?

The successful applicant will:
- Be open to being mentored and coached in order to develop pedagogy skills and competencies.
- Have a high level of computer competency and be willing to learn new systems.
- Learn how to integrate technology into the curriculum using various electronic media in the classroom.
- Be willing to apply for SACE registration and clearance with the Child Protection Act and Sexual Offences Register.
There is an opportunity for female applicants with a driver’s licence to live and work in the Boarding Establishment (in a single capacity) and the applicant’s willingness to do so will be an advantage.
Please note that this is a one-year contract.
