isiZulu Speech Contest

On Saturday, 5 May, five of our Grade 11 and 12 isiZulu girls were invited to participate in the isiZulu Speech/Poetry and Traditional Dance contest held at Ladysmith High School. The contest was divided into five categories, however St John’s D.S.G. only entered in to three, Prepared Speech, where learners had to write, prepare and present their own speech; Poetry, where learners had to write and recite their original poem; and Novel Quiz, where learners had to study general novel questions. St John’s D.S.G. was one of eight schools around the uMgungundlovu and uThukela District to participate, and through this experience learnt so much.

Mrs Londiwe Mkhulise, isiZulu Teacher says, “The competition was strong and our girls did extremely well considering that it was their first time participating. I am so proud of them for doing their own original Zulu poems and speeches. They were all so confident. We will defiately be going back next year.”

Thank you to Mrs Mkhulise and Miss Motloung for accompanying our girls to Ladysmith and for all their encouragement and support.
