HEART-TO-HEART WITH KELLY MOORE đ
Currently in her first year of Masterâs in Counselling Psychology at Tuks University, St Johnâs D.S.G. Old Girl, Kelly Moore (Class of 2018) has found this year to be an absolute whirlwind! Abiding by her dadâs favourite saying of, âoperating at the edge of your capacityâ has kept her going and she has started seeing the fruit of her hard work, perseverance and consistency coming through.
What is your favourite memory from your time at school?
One of my favourite memories has got to be when our entire grade went to watch âMamma Mia! Here We Go Againâ at the cinema. It was an outing that had absolutely no underlying academic requirements, and it was the perfect break from all the pressures that come with being in Matric. I still remember the energy of the common room when we got back to school, with people playing the sound track to the movie and everyone just dancing and laughing. Having said that, I donât think anyone can deny that the most enthusiastic member of that outing was Mrs Kidd!
What do you think makes St John’s D.S.G. the special school that it is today?
There is something about the relationships you find at St Johnâs D.S.G. that makes it so special, and specifically, the relationships that the teachers develop with the girls. Over my years at the school, I had many conversations with teachers where they would encourage me, share wisdom with me, call me out, check in on me, and even pray for me – and I really believe that those relationships and intentional conversations played a role in shaping me into who I am today. And of course, I canât talk about what makes St Johnâs D.S.G. special without mentioning the incredible food that never failed to impress us!
