Scholarships: Grade 8, 2021: The following Scholarships may be awarded at Grade 8 level and the percentage varies for each Scholarship. The Principal is entitled to award these at his discretion and may choose not to award certain Scholarships. There are no Scholarships awarded at a Junior School level, or beyond Grade 8. Scholarship Application forms will only be accepted once an Application Form has been submitted together with the Application Fee of R600. Scholarship Applications close at 10h00 on Friday, 24 April.
Academic: In writing the compulsory entrance tests, all pupils are eligible for consideration for an Academic Scholarship. There is no separate Academic Scholarship Exam.

Sports Scholarship: Applicants will be required to submit a C.V. of recent sporting achievements, accompanied by certificates of achievement. The Sports Scholarship applicant is not required to be interviewed by the Sports Department. Please note: only recognised St John’s D.S.G. school sports will be considered.
Music: Applicants will be required to submit a C.V. of recent examination results and achievements, accompanied by the relevant certificates/results. The Music Scholarship applicant may be required to prepare two pieces for an audition. Girls applying for a Music Scholarship must have a passion for music and must have excelled in at least one instrument or in singing. Playing additional instruments is an advantage, but not a determining factor. A minimum level of Grade 2 of musical development must have been achieved on their main instruments and participation in musical activities, other than being a soloist, will benefit them. A Music Scholarship is dependent on the pupil taking Music as a Matric subject. Should the pupil not take Music as a Matric subject from Grade 10, the scholarship will fall away.
All-Rounder Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a pupil who is an “all-round” achiever in the classroom, culturally and/or on the sports field.
Sisters of St John the Divine Scholarship: This Scholarship is awarded to a deserving pupil whose achievement in the entrance test is commendable.
Clifton Nottingham Road Primary (Closed): This Scholarship is awarded to a pupil who attends Clifton School, Nottingham Road, and who achieves above 75% in the entrance tests. Please note: All girls who apply from the above school will be considered, there is no application form.
Laddsworth Primary (Closed): This Scholarship is awarded to a pupil who attends Laddsworth Primary, and who achieves above 75% in the entrance tests. Please note: All girls who apply from the above school will be considered, there is no application form.
Old Girls’ Bursary: This Bursary is offered to a pupil who is the daughter or granddaughter of a past St John’s D.S.G. pupil. It is awarded at the discretion of the Old Girls’ Committee the school’s Bursary Committee, and not necessarily on an annual basis. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
All the above scholarships (including the Academic Boarder Scholarships) are based on tuition fees only and do not cover the costs of uniforms, textbooks, stationery or any extras. The percentage of scholarships vary from 10-60% off the full tuition fee. Each of these scholarships is awarded for a 5-year period, provided the pupil abides by the following criteria:
- She makes every effort to maintain the high standard of work (and/or sport, and/or music – if applicable) of which we believe she is capable
- She acts at all times in a manner as to bring credit to herself, her family and her school
- She upholds the school’s Code of Conduct
- The parent’s portion of the school fees is paid timeously
