Situated in the garden city of
Pietermaritzburg,
St John's D.S.G. is a leading Independent Anglican Girls' School.
The value system of love and discipline, established through 109
proud years of education, and based on Christian principles, forms
the cornerstone of the school. St John's welcomes pupils of all
denominations and religions and values the variety of languages
and cultures which are represented throughout the school.
Set in ample grounds and well-known
for its indigenous garden, the school boasts manicured sports
grounds and a gracious chapel. Other facilities include a well-equipped
resource centre, theatre, a cutting-edge computer room and science
block, as well as the indoor multi-purpose centre.

Excellent
matriculation results prove our ability to provide the tuition and
encouragement necessary for all pupils to achieve their full potential.
Varied and flexible subject packages cover the humanities and sciences
to meet the abilities and interests of all our pupils. Our fine
facilities include a modern theatre, a well-equipped Resource Centre,
cutting-edge computer room and a state-of the-art Science Block.
The Chapel forms the heart of the school and as we are an independent
Anglican Girls' School, our learners attend regular Chapel services.
We do, however, welcome pupils of all denominations and religions
to our School.
A bus service is available for day scholars from Howick, Hilton
and Athlone areas.
An extensive guidance and lifeskills programme prepares our pupils
to meet the challenges of adult life. Enrichment and leadership
tours are included in the curriculum and opportunities to travel
overseas include exchange programmes and various cultural and sporting
tours to countries around the world.
We write the Matric Examination of the Independent Examinations
Board and ensure we maintain the highest academic standards.
The benefits of the size of St John's are clearly seen in small
classes, individual attention, caring and modern teaching methods,
and spacious working conditions.
The St John's family encourages parent participation, and constant
contact is maintained through the Parents' Association and the Border
Parent Committee.
Young adults of St John's D.S.G. have confidence in their ability
to contribute positively to their own future development, to that
of their families, as well as that of their community and country.
