The family atmosphere
is very much a mark of the junior boarding establishment, St Joseph's,
which is supervised by matron, Mrs Eleanor Blignaut.
Mrs B is assisted
by a live-in boarder mistress and two prefects from St Catherine's
- the matric wing.

The Junior school is accommodated in pretty garden surroundings,
tended by a caring group of past and present mothers, and incorporates
some of the original school buildings.
As we are an Independent Anglican Girls' School, our Chapel forms
the heart of our school and our junior girls attend Chapel once a
week. We welcome pupils of all denominations and religions, and value
the variety of languages and cultures which are represented throughout
the school.
Classes range from Grade O, affectionately known as the "Eaglets",
to Grade 7. Both Junior and High Schools are part of the same complex
and share many facilities and teachers, allowing an easy transition
from Grade 7 to High School.
Every Monday morning the entire school meets for assembly in the School
Theatre. This is a time when the whole school unites in the knowledge
that it is one and that all are responsible for one another.
The Junior School has its own well-equipped playground, Resource Centre
and up-to-date Computer Centre and girls are able to express their
ideas in a variety of ways, including good old fashioned play!
There is a bus service for day scholars from Howick, Hilton and Athlone
areas, and in the afternoons there is an After-Care facility in the
Resource Centre, where prep. and both structured and imaginative play
are supervised by teaching staff.
Theme teaching and cross-curricular activities are encouraged and
children have access to specialist teachers in Music, Art, Drama,
Computer Studies, Remedial and Physical Education.
Our dedicated staff encourage a partnership between our school and
its parents as we believe that parents, friends and teachers play
a most important part in the development of a child. |
The school provides an
after-school care service between 14.00 and 16.00 from Monday
to Thursday
(1.30 - 3.30 on a Wednesday) for Grades 1 - 7,
and until 14.00 for Gr. 0.
Aftercare is free of charge
